3. Privacy & Terms URLs
Telnyx toll-free SMS verification requires both a Privacy Policy URL and a Terms & Conditions URL. The renter-facing SMS-consent screen during contract signing also renders both as clickable links under the opt-in checkbox.
Where to set them
Settings → Business details → Privacy & terms URLs
Both fields must be public https:// URLs. They cannot be http://, localhost, or behind authentication.
What goes on these pages
Privacy Policy
A plain-language description of:
- What data you collect (name, phone, email, driver’s license, payment info)
- How you use it (rental processing, customer communications, fraud prevention)
- Who you share it with (your payment provider, Telnyx for SMS, no marketing third parties)
- How long you retain it
- How customers can request deletion or correction (a contact method)
The page must explicitly mention SMS data collection or Telnyx will reject the submission.
Terms & Conditions
Your rental terms — the same legal copy that appears in your contract is a fine starting point. Cover:
- Late-fee schedule and how it is calculated
- Damage liability and deductible
- Insurance requirements
- Cancellation policy
If you don’t have a lawyer-drafted version, a generic rental T&C template from your state bar is a reasonable starting point. Replace placeholder fields with your actual numbers.
After saving
The new URLs apply immediately. They flow to:
- The SMS-consent slot during contract signing
- Your next Telnyx verification submission
- The customer-facing portal footer
No app restart or re-sign-in required.
Common rejection reasons from Telnyx
| Rejection | Fix |
|---|---|
| ”Privacy URL returns 404” | The URL must be a live, indexable page — not behind auth, not on localhost |
| ”Terms URL does not match the business” | The customer-facing name on the page should match the legal name you submitted (or a clearly related DBA) |
| “Privacy policy does not cover SMS” | Add a section explicitly mentioning SMS data collection and the carrier message-and-data-rates language |
